Welcome to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, Two Spirit (LGBTQI2S) inclusion Healthcare Provider Guide. With this guide, we aim to provide healthcare professionals with crucial information and resources to better serve LGBTQI2S patients.
This guide is a component of m.bodiment, by Egale Canada Human Rights Trust. The m.bodiment project was created to foster a dialogue about gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (GBTQ) men’s bodies, body image, physical, and mental health.
The m.bodiment project conducted focus groups and a community based survey with GBTQ men and found that GBTQ men experience various health disparities and barriers to accessing proper health care compared to the general population.
Further research into other identities within LGBTQI2S communities solidifies the existence of broader trends of health disparities between LGBTQI2S persons and the general cisgender and heterosexual population.
Finally, in producing this guide we conducted an environmental scan of current available resources to equip healthcare providers with knowledge on how to promote LGBTQI2S inclusion in their individual and clinical practices as well as avenues towards systemic change.
